I was trying to think of a creative way to start my blog and the only idea that came was to dig into the few things I remember from my high school Japanese class for a way to say "hello."
If you couldn't tell already, I am new to the blogging world. However, I am excited to embark on this adventure. I have always enjoyed writing and recording my experiences. Now, I am eager to share about both teaching and Compassion International.
Anyways, let me back up and introduce myself.
My name is Becky. I am in my second year of teaching, and I love it. I teach first grade in a very diverse area of northern New Jersey. I never expected to end up in New Jersey after living in the Midwest (Iowa and Ohio) most of my life, but God had other (better) plans. More on that later though.
I graduated from Liberty University in Virginia in May 2011 after completing my student teaching with a second grade class in an urban school district. Student teaching was one of the most challenging experiences of my life, but I came out of it feeling so confirmed that I was/am called to be a teacher and that I want to make a difference in the lives of children in need.
That brings me to the other focus of this blog: Compassion International.
After graduating from college and saying goodbye to that ministry, I felt a bit aimless about how God wanted me to serve the needy until last February when He called me to sponsor a child through Compassion International. Now, 10 months later, I sponsor three beautiful and adorable children (see below) and I have become an official child advocate. I am so excited about how God is opening the doors for me to serve with Compassion. I hope to share my heart and passion for breaking the chains of poverty with you through this blog and to perhaps inspire you to find a way to make a difference.

When I am not teaching, lesson planning, or doing things for Compassion, I like to take walks, read, bake, watch TV, and hang out with friends. I am also addicted (and proud of it!) to pinning things on Pinterest and playing Scramble with Friends. I dare you to challenge me (moonlover424) to a game !! I also spend every weekend with my boyfriend who lives 2 1/2 hours away in Pennsylvania. We have lots of fun adventures and make the most of our time together.
Well, that's enough rambling for now. I'll be back to post some teaching ideas soon.
