Friday Freebie- Nonfiction Schema and What I Learned

This week, our class started our nonfiction reading unit.  You can read about how we launched it here.  In celebration of the new unit, I have a nonfiction freebie for you all.  Click the picture to download it.

Note:  For some reason the clipart looks fuzzy on Google Drive.  It should be fine when you download the file.

Please let me know if you download the freebie.  Feedback is appreciated.  Thanks!

  1. What topics are included in your non-fiction unit? I'm always curious about what other first grade teachers are teaching. We'll be reading about American Heroes (Week 1) next week. Lots of non-fiction....

  2. We don't really have specific topics; we just teach text features and how to read nonfiction. I have a nonfiction features book that I go through that includes things like table of contents, captions, charts etc. I probably could focus on a topic; that might be fun, but I haven't thought of that before.

American heroes sounds like an interesting focus.

    Thanks for commenting!

  3. Super cute freebie! Thank you for sharing it! It's great for them to compare what they already knew to what they have learned...and if they still think they were right about what they THOUGHT they knew!! ;O)

    1. I'm glad you like it. I do think it will be good for the kids to think about what they learned. You are right that they may have to revise their thinking, which is good for them to learn to do.
